About Golden Pheasant

Golden Pheasant stands as a cherished culinary institution in Torrance, California, representing over two decades of authentic Chinese dining excellence. Located at 1077 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90502, this easygoing sit-down restaurant has become a beloved destination for those seeking genuine Asian cuisine in the South Bay area. With its convenient location just a block away from Harbor UCLA Medical Center, Golden Pheasant welcomes diners into a welcoming atmosphere where tradition meets contemporary hospitality. The restaurant’s phone number, +1 310-320-1030, connects customers to a team dedicated to delivering exceptional service and memorable meals.

The story of Golden Pheasant is deeply rooted in the immigrant experience and family dedication. The restaurant was originally opened by Danny Kwan, a Guangdong native, and his wife Estella, who had immigrated from Hong Kong in 1971. A year after their arrival, they established Golden Pheasant as a family venture, bringing with them the authentic culinary traditions of Cantonese cuisine. This heritage remains evident in every dish served today, as the restaurant continues to honor the classical cooking techniques and flavor profiles that defined 1980s Cantonese food—a style that has become increasingly rare in modern dining establishments. The Kwan family’s commitment to authenticity has ensured that Golden Pheasant maintains its distinctive character and culinary integrity across generations.

In October 2016, Golden Pheasant underwent a significant transformation with new ownership and comprehensive renovations, marking a soft opening on October 15, 2016. This revitalization breathed fresh energy into the establishment while preserving the authentic culinary traditions that made it famous. The newly renovated space maintains the restaurant’s easygoing charm, featuring a dedicated parking lot and comfortable dining areas designed to accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations. The restaurant’s physical presence reflects its commitment to providing a welcoming environment where guests can enjoy their meals without pretension or unnecessary formality.

Golden Pheasant’s menu showcases an impressive array of authentic Chinese dishes that cater to diverse palates and dietary preferences. The restaurant specializes in hot pot experiences and seafood preparations, offering standout dishes like Mongolian Beef, Walnut Shrimp, House Special Chow Mein, and expertly prepared duck. Beyond these signature items, the menu features vegan and vegetarian options, delicious beef and pork preparations, and traditional soups that reflect the restaurant’s Cantonese heritage. Diners consistently praise the generous portion sizes, affordable pricing, and the quality of ingredients used in every preparation. The kitchen operates with a philosophy that prioritizes both speed and care—food arrives quickly without sacrificing the attention to detail that defines authentic Chinese cooking.

The restaurant accommodates various dining preferences through multiple service options. While the establishment specializes in dine-in experiences where guests can enjoy the full ambiance of the restaurant, Golden Pheasant also offers take-out and phone-order delivery services. Previously offering free delivery within a four-mile radius for orders meeting the minimum requirement, the restaurant continues to adapt its services to meet customer needs. The absence of online ordering reflects the restaurant’s traditional approach, encouraging direct communication between customers and staff to ensure orders are prepared exactly as desired.

Golden Pheasant has earned its reputation through consistent excellence, exceptional service, and an unwavering commitment to authentic Chinese cuisine. Whether you’re seeking a casual weeknight dinner, a celebration with family and friends, or an exploration of traditional Cantonese flavors, this Torrance institution delivers an extraordinary dining experience that honors culinary tradition while embracing genuine hospitality.

My nephew had his Graduation Luncheon here and all the dishes were delicious. They ordered so many dishes, I didn’t take a pic of everything. Aside from the main dining area, there is a small back area that has enough room for 5 large tables. The service even though they were packed, was good. A few times we had to wait for drink refills, but considering we were a party of almost 30 and a full restaurant. The parking is limited, but there’s additional parking in adjacent lots. The interior is the usual Chinese Restaurant decor, nothing fancy, but clean and charming. They do a significant amount of to-go trays, keep them in mind for your next gathering.

Alright, where do I start! Parking is limited. Nobody greeted us at first, but we had a seat right away once the server showed up. First time eating here, so we got a lunch special each. She got beef and broccoli and i got orange chicken, and it comes with 2 different kinds of soup. The chicken corn soup and hot and sour soup. The corn was ok, and the hot and sour was inedible. We asked for fried rice and we had to return because it was so hard. The steam rice was slightly better. We asked for soft broccoli and it came out hard, so we returned that also. The orange chicken was ok at best. I will not recommend this place, and it will not return. The server was very rude. It's not my fault she doesn't understand English. The portions are big, but if it's not good, does it really matter?

Try what you can While you can a year ago

The food is fast food Chinese elevated due to it being a sit down restaurant feel. This is not Chinese food- not authentic. One of ladies if you observe used one glove over and over again to clean tables to serve dishes to tables and when she is upfront collecting money etc. Also the only one that was helpful was the man who took our order and the Latin/Mexican man who was cleaning the tables. We wanted to try a Mom and Pop but were disappointed.

Ate here multiple times but this was my first time ordering "to go" because we didn't have time to dine in. It was usually busy when we dine in. Always a waiting list. Authentic as can be Chinese Food was well worth the wait when we dine in. Food was always tasty. You get soup to start off and dessert to end your meal. Portion size was always plenty. It was definitely extra extra large servings. We ordered to go and we got plenty. The fried pork, kung pow chicken and chow fun, all were very good. We had enough for dinner too. Oh, we also got soup but no dessert.

I've been coming here for many years. The food is great most of the time. This past Sunday, the fish in black bean sauce was too salty. The portions are huge sometimes, and sometimes they're not. I think sometimes they rush when busy. Service can also be better. Sometimes, you have to wave them down to get something. I am giving them 5 stars for the food. Service can be a little better as far as checking on the customer a little more.
